在返校舞会上发表鼓舞人心的演讲后，乔蒂（艾娃·米歇尔）不再只是那个“高个女孩”，她变得受欢迎、有自信，交了男朋友，并且今年学校音乐剧的主角也归她了。新获得的人气让乔蒂感到压力倍增，不安全感也加重了；她将结识新的人，但她的旧有关系也将经受考验。当她努力建立起来的一切开始瓦解时，乔蒂意识到，昂首挺胸做人只是一个开始。。A group of students who are participating in a university's summer science camp are drawn into an incredible quagmire of conflicts, ranging from the relatively simple conflict between an engaging and forthright young teacher and his older manipulative colleague, to a contest pitting political correctness against free scientific inquiry. Despite the murkiness of some of the issues in the latter conflict, the students pitch in enthusiastically on what they believe to be the side of righteousness, and passions rise to fever pitch.
